Abstract:

The UN Women committee is The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality, and the Empowerment of Women, founded to promote progress in satisfying the needs of women around the world. This committee assists the UN Member States in developing global standards for gender equality and collaborates with governments and civil society to establish the laws, guidelines, programs, and necessary services to ensure that the measures are correctly implemented and benefit women and girls worldwide. It works conjunctively with the Sustainable Development Goals to make women’s equal participation in all aspects of life a reality for women and girls. After many years of facing severe challenges related to the lack of promotion of gender equality and no recognized directed activities from the UN to solve these problems, in July 2010, the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) created UN Women. Since the UNGA voted unanimously due to years of discussions between the UN Member States and campaigning by the global women's movement, this committee, which is part of the UN reform agenda, pulls together resources and mandates to have a more substantial impact and make progress in addressing the needs of women and girls around the
world. The Un Women committee focuses on working together with four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment. It has made significant progress in advancing gender equality, having in mind that equality is not only a fundamental human right, but its achievement has enormous socio-economic ramifications. These four parts of the UN system are 1. Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) 2. International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) 3. Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI) 4. United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). The committee aims to promote a dynamic and robust champion for women and girls, providing them with a powerful voice at the global, regional, and local levels.
